Principal Message - March 17th

Greetings Husky Families

Although our weather has not been totally cooperative, Spring is in the air.  With that, we welcome a number of events that reflect this season:  the 1st day of Spring (Tuesday), Spring Break (the week of March 25th), and of course, our Spring Showcase (this Thursday).

Please be sure to join us on campus for our Spring Showcase.  This is a great opportunity for you to see what’s happening in our Fine Arts and Wellness (FAW) department.  The art gallery walk starts at 4:45 pm followed by performances at 5:15 pm.

All Hands on Deck:  Before our show can come to life, we need support hanging artwork on Monday and Wednesday after school.  To assist us, please sign up here

What better way to end our third quarter than by hosting a Spirit Week.  Please make sure your child participates with us on each fun-filled theme day.  Details are each day are below:

Parent Workshop:  Please join us Tuesday, March 19th at 9 am for our parent workshop around how to support your child(ren) with executive functioning and organization.  This event, co-sponsored by our PAC and BAC, will have an in-person and virtual option for attendance.

During the week of March 25th, staff and students will be on our Spring recess.  This recess will be through April 1st.  April 1st is a professional learning day and there will be no students in attendance.  Students will return to school on Tuesday, April 2nd.  We thank you for a wonderful three quarters of school.

When we return to school, our 3rd through 8th grade students will begin the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) on Wednesday, April 3rd through Friday, April 5th.

Crosswalk Safety:  In an effort to support the safety of our students, I am asking that you assist us in not blocking any of the crosswalks during arrival or dismissal.  It is important to keep the crosswalks clear.  Please assist us in keeping our students safe.

Nominations Open for Crossing Guard of the Year Award
CPS is currently encouraging school communities to nominate their favorite crossing guards for the District's Crossing Guard of the Year Award using this form. Students, staff, school leaders, parents, and other community members are all welcome to submit a nomination for a crossing guard who has made a difference in their lives. The form will be open until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15th, and the winners will be announced on Monday, May 13th, 2024. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. Let’s make sure our own Mr. Michael Watson is nominated and acknowledged for the great job he does inside and outside of the school.

For further details around what’s happening on campus,  I encourage you to review the calendar sent home or our website for additional details.

Have an amazing week.
