Dear Jahn Families,

Happy new year!  I hope you all had a fun and relaxing winter break.  Thanks for getting your children to school every day on time.

We are currently looking for parent volunteers to staff the library on a weekly basis.  The job includes helping students check out books, re-stocking books, and helping to keep the library clean and organized.  Please email me if you are interested in working in the library one day a week.

We recently won a grant from Roscoe Village Neighbors to paint new murals in the main entrance to the building.  The Jahn Arts Council (JAC) reviewed work from several artists and selected Jessica Mueller to complete the project.  Jessica is a parent of two Jahn students and has extensive experience as an artist and art educator.  Please join us on February 15th for a mural reveal night from 6-7pm.  More details will be sent out soon.

MAP testing for grades 2-8 begins this week.  The schedule is on the website under the digital backpack.  All students will be finished testing by January 27th.  The data will be used to inform instruction and help prepare students for the end of year MAP assessment.

We ordered brand new science materials and resources for grades K-5 from FOSS.  Please visit www.fossweb.com for more information about the FOSS science curriculum.

Please save the date for the second annual Rock the Night Away fundraiser on March 3rd from 7-10pm.  More details will be sent home soon.

Students in grades K-5 will receive music instruction from Alex’s music studio for the remainder of the year.  Students in grades K-2 will have general music lessons and students in grades 3-5 will have lessons using the ukulele.  Visit www.alexsmusicstudio.com for more information about Alex’s music studio, located in Roscoe Village.

We offer after school programming with the YMCA from 3-6pm M-F.  There are spaces available and applications available in the main office.  There is financial assistance available from Action for Children as well as scholarships through the YMCA.  The students who are currently in the after school programming will perform in a talent show on February 22nd in the Jahn auditorium at 4pm.  All families are welcome to attend and support the students!

We are currently taking applications for full-day, tuition-based preschool for next year.  Please spread the word and pick up an application from the main office, if interested.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
