Michael Herring

I was born in Iowa, but grew up in Moline, IL along the Mississippi River. From a large family, I have 15 aunts and uncles and over 35 cousins.  My commitment to improving public education is clear and remains a constant goal.

After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, I taught high school science in Los Angeles and in Austin, Texas. At Crockett High School in Austin I taught biology, chemistry, physics, and AP Environmental Science to students in grades 9-12. I also served as an instructional coach at the high school level. I earned a Master of Educational Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin Principalship Program and worked as an assistant principal in Austin before moving back to Illinois to be closer to family. I give well-earned credit to Crockett High School for fostering a community of learners and leaders.

I enjoy building relationships with students, families, and staff in order to provide high-quality, engaging instruction to all students.

During my spare time, I enjoy travel, cooking, riding my bike, and spending time along Lake Michigan. New Orleans, Milwaukee, and Puerto Vallarta are a few of my favorite places to spend time. I love exploring Chicago and eating at new restaurants.

I look forward to a great school year. Please don't hesitate to reach out if I can assist you in any way.
