If you live outside our attendance boundaries and your child is in Kindergarten or older, you will need to participate in the CPS lottery process to gain admission to the school. Lottery applications for fall admission are due in December of the preceding year and are submitted directly to CPS central office. Prospective parents will be notified of lottery results in early March. The CPS website has information about the lottery process.

You will need to bring your child's original birth certificate, parent’s state-issued identification, immunization record, and proof of address. For Kindergarten and 5th grade students, a physical is also required.

Tours are held every Wednesday morning at 8:30 and by appointment.  Please contact the office at (773) 534-5500 to schedule.  Our Principal, Michael Herring or a parent will guide all tours.

For the 2016-2017 school year, Jahn will not have Tuition Based Pre-K (TBPK). If you have interest in TBPK for the following year, please contact the main school office as we are actively working to engage families to start a program at Jahn. 

The half-day Pre-K program is controlled by CPS and is not neighborhood based.  Please visit CPS Ready to Learn for more information.  The tuition for the half-day program is calculated based on your income.

Jahn offers before school care from 7-8am, 5 days per week and is run by YMCA.  Call the Lakeview YMCA to sign up for before school care.

No, CPS only provides transportation for children with special needs.

All of our students participate in physical education for a minimum 60 minutes a week.

Jahn offers visual arts, music, and dance to all students in grades K-8.

Yes. All students have recess for 20 minutes every day.  Our recess program is supervised by Urban Initiatives, which has structured, age-appropriate activities.

Yes. The Lakeview YMCA provides afterschool care from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Jahn. The program is open to members and non-members.  There is financial assistance available if needed. Please visit our After School Care section for more information. 

Inclusion or blended are terms used for including students with IEPs in the general education setting. Jahn uses co-teaching as a service delivery model in many classrooms.

The Pre-K classrooms have a maximum teacher-student ratio of 2:20.  Kindergarten through 8th grade class sizes average 25 students per classroom.  However, considering the number of learning specialists at Jahn, the average teacher-student ratio is 1:20.

The half day Pre-K has two sessions each day, Monday-Friday.  The morning session is from 8:00 am until 10:30 am and the afternoon session runs from 12:15 pm until 2:45 pm.
