Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!
I was born on the Southside of Chicago, where I attended CPS for my primary years. My mother was a first-generation Irish American, and my father immigrated to the United States from Ireland. Although neither of my parents completed their formal educations, all of my siblings (2 sisters and a brother) graduated college with advanced degrees. My parents fostered a love of
learning in all of us by exposing us to books at an early age. As a parent of two adult children, I also shared the world of books with my children, and I am proud to boast that both my son and my daughter share a lifelong love of learning and have also obtained advanced degrees.
I began my career in the parochial school system prior to joining Chicago Public Schools in 1985. I have had wonderful teaching experiences that have included being an art instructor, school librarian, elementary education teacher (K, 3, 5-6) and school counselor. I have also been an adjunct professor at a private Chicago university. In addition to my teaching degree, I am a
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Although education is a passion of mine, it is not my only passion. I am an avid reader and lover of outdoor activities including kayaking and bike riding. When weather limits my outdoor activities, I enjoy spending time sewing, restoring furniture and cooking. My family and friends are my most cherished and celebrated gifts. But by far, my greatest passion is discovering the unending joy of being a grandmother!
