We hope this communication finds you and your family well!  As we prepare for the new school year during a global pandemic and racial injustice, we want to assure you that we stand ready to support our school community.   To continue our work, we need the collaboration of all stakeholders to be unified to ensure our students remain at the core of our mission. Together, we will be strong and committed!

District’s Framework for Fall Remote Learning:  Yesterday, Chicago Public Schools released the final framework for fall remote learning.  Please review the Remote Learning Guidance and the ODLSS Remote Learning Guidance.  The guidance is very detailed, and I will schedule information sessions with parents by grade bands to review the guidance and answer questions.  More information coming soon about dates/times and links to the Google Meets information sessions.

Tomorrow, August 20, 2020, the Diverse Learner Committee (DLC) will host two parent information sessions via Google Meets. Please feel free to join the session to learn more about the Jahn Diverse Learner Committee and how to get involved.  For more information, please feel free to contact Nicole Abreu Shepard, Current DLC Chair @ ms.abreu@gmail.com and/or Mrs. Moon-Sarudi, Assistant Principal @ smoon@cps.edu

Chromebooks: We passed out a large number of Chromebooks on Friday, August 14th.  If you still need a Chromebook, please contact Mrs. Moon-Sarudi directly at smoon@cps.edu.  We are here to support you!

Educational Platform: All teachers will use Google Meets for direct live instruction this year.  As we all learn new technology during this time, please review and bookmark this comprehensive list of student and parent tutorials that will help you navigate various systems.

Required Immunizations:  Evidence shows that healthy students have better attendance patterns and perform better academically.  Families must provide proof of required immunizations and health exams prior to October 15th, 2020.  There will be a vaccination van that is visiting the following schools this week for free vaccinations. Parents should CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT to 773-247-9736 ahead of time. Walk-ins might be accommodated, but appointments are preferred to keep the social distancing right.  Mobile Care Chicago will hold the following events from 10am to 2 pm.

Wednesday, August 19th:  Nixon ES

Thursday, August 20th:  Mozart ES

Jahn Family Ambassador Program: Current families, we need you!  Transitioning to a new school and community can be overwhelming for parents and students alike. Taking this into account, the New Families Ambassador Program was created to connect new families with existing members of the Jahn community. Please consider volunteering for this important role. As an Ambassador, you will serve as a contact person to answer questions and help our new families feel welcome. Please email Jahn parent and New Families Ambassador Program Coordinator, Mollie Vivoda, at mollie.vivoda@gmail.com if you’d like to be paired with new families this fall for the current school year or want more information.

School Fees/Supplies:  There will be no student fees collected this fall, and families will receive their homeroom assignments during the week of August 31st.    We will share one student supply list soon, that will include recommended supplies for remote learning for all grades.

Lastly, are you missing the chickens?  Us too!  As a reminder, we have donated our chickens to a farm due to lack of staff and students at school to take care of them.  Have a great rest of your week!
