University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign M.Ed. in Special Education
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Hi! My name is Tim Meyers, and I am so excited to join the faculty at Jahn as a middle school learning specialist. I grew up in Byron, Illinois, a small town just outside of Rockford, before moving to Urbana-Champaign, where I received by B.S. in Media and Cinema Studies. For the past several years, I worked as a documentary producer/director for the local PBS member station in Urbana, often focusing on education and the arts. Education has always been a passion of mine, and I finally decided to pursue my M.Ed. in Special Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016. I recently moved to the Buena Park neighborhood with my girlfriend, and I’ve enjoyed spending the last few weeks of summer exploring my new home and one of the best cities in the world.
As an educator, I believe all students deserve a high quality, equitable education that celebrates cultural diversity, encourages critical thinking, and promotes social and emotional learning, all within the least restrictive learning environment. As part of the learning community at Jahn, I aim to provide each of my students with the supports they need to grow academically, socially, and emotionally in a consistent and safe environment in which they are always challenged to do their best. Partnerships with families is essential to each student’s growth, and I look forward to getting to know the families of my students and sharing their child’s progress with them throughout the school year.
In my free time, I love to cook, learn languages (Spanish and Danish, currently), and explore new places. As a filmmaker and photographer, I’m looking forward to sharing my passion for the arts with my colleagues and students, and I can’t wait to see how they explore their own creativity in the classroom!
