Principal message for Husky Howl

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an important part of children's education.  At Jahn, we use Second Step as a Tier 1 curriculum, which the teachers implement each Monday.  Our school counselor, Mrs. Rendleman, will assess SEL skills during the week of December 13th using the Washoe SEL Skills Inventory.  To learn more about this skills inventory, read here.

In alignment with the district’s 2016 guidelines regarding the support of trans and gender noncomforming students and the CPS policy on nondiscrimination, all schools are required to post new bathroom signage which identifies the fixtures available in the bathroom and makes it clear that our restrooms are open for use to anyone who feels comfortable in that space. Schools will continue to provide a single stall or private restroom as an option for anyone who asks, while also maintaining separate restrooms for staff.  Read the letter from CPS regarding these changes here.

A virtual Ask the Expert event will be held on Tuesday, December 14 from 4–5 p.m. to help explain this policy. Click here to register for this event. For more information, we encourage you to read this letter from our district’s Title IX officer Camie Pratt and review our announcement video, Bathroom Gender Equity FAQ, and Supporting Gender Diversity Toolkit
