Principal Message 1/24

Dear Jahn Families,

I hope you are enjoying the snow!

We are still looking for a Crossing Guard for the Belmont & Wolcott intersection.  The hours are M-F, 7:15 - 8:15 and 2:30 - 3:30.  If you know of any parents or community members interested in supporting Jahn as a Crossing Guard, please have them follow the application process below.  If possible, also ask them to email [email protected] with their name and contact information so they can ensure you are assigned to our specific vacancy once they are deemed eligible.

Here are some key highlights about this opportunity:

  1. The starting pay rate for a Crossing Guard is $15.46/hr and the positions are currently posted on the CPS website.
  2. Crossing Guards are eligible for CPS employee benefits.
  3. Finally, once a Crossing Guard is hired with CPS, they are also eligible to work as a miscellaneous employee to support another CPS school between10:30am - 1:30pm.

COVID19 Testing is available at Jahn every Tuesday.  Sign up to provide consent for your child to get COVID19 tested by clicking here.  We cannot test your child unless you provide us with consent.  Also, beginning Wednesday, January 19th, you can order free rapid COVID19 test kits through the government at www.covidtests.gov.  A total of four test kits can be ordered per household.  I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.

Mrs. Moon-Sarudi has organized a vaccination event at Jahn on Thursday, February 3rd from 9:30am - 1:00pm.  Please read the event flyers in English and Spanish.  The vendor will return 3 weeks later to provide the second dose.  All families are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated, and this is a great way to get it done.

As a reminder, we will continue to hold recess outdoors when the temperature is 20 degrees or higher and not raining.  Students should dress appropriately to be outdoors for recess.

Finally, we have received many questions about when students should quarantine.  Below are the answers to common questions.

Does the close contact need to quarantine?

  • If they are NOT FULLY VACCINATED at the time of exposure
    • The close contact needs to quarantine if not experiencing any symtoms.
  • If they are FULLY VACCINATED at the time of exposure
  • If they have had COVID-19 WITHIN THE PAST 90 DAYS, COMPLETED ISOLATION, and RECOVERED
    • The close contact does not need to quarantine if not experiencing any symtoms.

Have a great week, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Michael Herring
