Principal Message - September 6th

Greetings Husky Families

As we enter the third week of the school year, continue to check in with your children around activities in their classrooms.  While we are working hard to provide students with sound instruction, we are continuously building community across each and every classroom. Inside the building, we are intentionally planning activities that bring our school community together, as well as additional opportunities that will allow us to bring you to the campus.

As you can see, construction is moving forward on our campus.  Our playground is ahead of schedule and should be available for student use by September 19th.  After that date, additional benches and shrubbery will be added. This is great news for our students who have patiently waited for this project’s completion.

Each month during the school year, we will introduce you to a social emotional learning (SEL) theme.  Our SEL theme for the month of September is “building community.”  Although this is the theme for this month, building community is an area of focus for our entire school year.  While there will be a number of activities happening throughout the building around this theme, I wanted to share with you a few resources you might want to consider to build on this at home:

Grades PK to 2nd resources: The Big Umbrella by Amy June Bates; and What Should Danny Do?  by Ganit and Adir Levy

Grades 3rd to 5th resources:  The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson and Rafael López; and Green Green: A Community Gardening Story by Marie Lamba

Grades 6th to 8th resources:  Harbor Me by Jacqueline Woodson; and New Kid by Jerry Craft

COVID testing at Jahn returned last week.  Testing will be held in the building each week on Wednesday.  If you are interested in your child testing at school, please use the link here.  If your child was previously registered for testing, you will need to register them here.  Once completed, consent will remain in place until students leave CPS.

Please take a moment to check out the School Calendar and other updates in News & Announcements.

Have a wonderful week!

Dr. Derrick Kimbrough, Principal
