Principal Message - September 19th

Greetings Husky Families

Week Five has arrived on the Jahn campus, which means that we are at the halfway point of our first quarter.  For the Jahn staff, this is an opportunity to pause and think about the school year.  With that, I have asked staff members to reflect on what the first weeks of school have looked like and what, if any, adjustments are needed to support the “whole child” for the next five weeks and beyond.  While our aim is to continuously grow students, I know that in order for this process to be effective, it will require us to look at ways to make what we do student-centered and equitable.

Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year.  Last week was clear evidence of what happens when we come together for our students.  Every connection last week from Churros and Chocolate, our Open House, and Husky Hustle showed us exactly what happens when a community comes together.  Each event proved to be successful.  That success is in part,  because of you.  Thank you again.

From what was shared with me, Friends of Jahn reached their goal for Husky Hustle.  As a result, students will get a chance to enjoy an extended activity through “Pies and Party on the Playground.”  I am sure it will be a blast.  Feel free to join us on Thursday at 2 pm.

Continue to take time and implement activities connected to our SEL theme for the month, “Building Community” as well as identify ways to celebrate LatinX & Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month.  Stay tuned for upcoming events connected to both of these topics.

On a final, yet, urgent note.  Due to the fact that our school is in the heart of a busy intersection, it is imperative that we shift our focus back to being a “Kiss and Go” campus.  This means that we will be asking that you not park for an extended period on the east side of Wolcott and the south side of Belmont.  In the coming days, my staff will develop a plan that speaks to this change and to the safety of our students.  We would appreciate your support and solicit any volunteers that would be willing to assist us in the plan’s implementation.

Have a wonderful week!

Dr. Derrick Kimbrough, Principal
