Principal Message - November 1st

Greetings Husky Families

As we say our good-byes to October, we welcome what some like to call “No-School November.”  For most, this means the time of year where we spend a number of days out of school and not in front of our students.  Our commitment is that despite what  November looks like, we will continue providing the best instruction to our students through this month and for months to come.

As you may have noticed, beginning of year assessment reports (iReady for grades K-2nd and Star360 for grades 3rd-8th) went home with report cards last week. Each assessment report included a cover letter briefly explaining the report with an invitation to my first “Koffee With Kimbrough.” This event will be held on Thursday, November 10th at 8:30 am.  During this time, Ms. Chambers and I will facilitate the session around the above mentioned assessments.

November also ushers in another SEL topic. This month's topic is Empathy. Listed below are a few books that can be easily connected to the topic: Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts, All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold, Giraffe Problems by Jory John, and It's Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr.

There’s lots of activities happening on the Jahn campus this week. Please check out the following announcements and our calendar of events.

Inclement Weather:  Unless there are harsh weather conditions (below 45 degrees), students will remain outside during the morning (unless it is raining or snowing).  Staff members will be outside as always, supporting student arrival.  In all cases, students will enter the building at 7:45 am.  With the change of weather, we encourage students to dress accordingly.

School Pictures:  Picture Day is today. Order before Picture Day to receive free shipping to the school. Ordering online is easy, visit https://inter-state.com/FlyerEntry/69641MF.

LSC Community Representative:  We are still in search of an additional community representative for our local school council.  If interested, please pick up an application from our main office.  Applications will be available until Wednesday, November 2nd.

ABAR Workgroup: Our Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist(ABAR) workgroup is looking for parent members.  Our workgroup is currently developing a scope and sequence and a calendar of events that are culturally relevant and represent our diverse school community.  Please reach out to the school to learn more or to express your interest.

School Fees:  Our Local School Council approved student fees for this year of $75 per student (with a maximum of three students per family).  School fees will be used to cover supplies, books, and SEL activities.  Students in Pre-K are not required to pay fees, but can donate an amount, if they choose.
