Principal Message - November 9th

Greetings Husky Families

As we continue to travel into the 2nd quarter, there’s excitement around campus.  For the most part, conversations center around what’s best for our students.  When thinking about what’s best for our students, the conversations look and sound like staff members being intentional about student learning.  Our work around student learning consists of making sure that what students learn is culturally relevant and reflects our school demographics.  This work will require our staff to be reflective of what’s currently being taught to our students and making adjustments, where necessary.  For the remainder of the year, we will spend time doing this work.  These shifts will allow us to provide the best instruction for every student within our building.

On Thursday, I begin the first of my monthly series, Koffee With Kimbrough.” This event begins at 8:30 am in the school auditorium.  For those who can not attend, we will make the slide deck available for viewing.

Please remember that our SEL theme for November is Empathy. Please take time to share with students ways to bring this theme to life.

On a final note, please take a moment to review the updates below.

Inclement Weather:  Unless there are harsh weather conditions (below 45 degrees), students will remain outside during the morning (unless it is raining or snowing).  As always ,staff members will be outside to support student arrival.  In all cases, students will enter the building at 7:45 am.  With the change of weather, we encourage students to dress accordingly.

ABAR Workgroup: Our Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist(ABAR) workgroup is looking for parent members.  Our workgroup is currently developing a scope and sequence and a calendar of events that are culturally relevant and represent our diverse school community.  Please reach out to the school to learn more or to express your interest.

School Fees:  Our Local School Council approved student fees for this year of $75 per student (with a maximum of three students per family).  School fees will be used to cover supplies, books, and SEL activities.  Students in Pre-K are not required to pay fees, but can donate an amount, if they choose.
