Principal Message - March 27th

Greetings Husky Community

As we enter this last week before our Spring Break, I am excited about the past 31 weeks of school.  Since the start of the school year, we have intentionally worked to create an environment where there is  continuous learning and growing.  While we do not have all of the answers, we are an institution that thrives on identifying creative solutions and will always work to provide the best support for everyone connected to our campus.  There is not a “one size fits all” philosophy here.  With that, I am very excited around the progress we have made to this point.

More recently, you have heard me sharing about how increasing student voice is a priority of mine.  I also shared with you our newly created Student Advisory Council.  Aside from that group, there are a number of other student-led teams I would like to highlight at various times through the remainder of this school year.  To kick it off, I would like to talk about our Jahn Ambassadors.  This team of students were created to represent the school at various functions and consist of Mia G. - 6th grade; Mckyla B. - 7th grade; and Claudia C. - 8th grade.  Be on the lookout for this group at future school events.

Before this month concludes, I ask that you continue to celebrate Women’s History Month and our SEL theme:  Problem Solving and Creative Solutions.  I have enjoyed embracing this month’s theme and finding ways to incorporate it into my daily routines.  Take a moment to check in with your children around these areas.

Before our students head into their break, there are a few things happening on campus that I would love for you to be aware of:

Koffee With Kimbrough: Our March Koffee With Kimbrough will be held on Tuesday, March 28th at 8:30 am.  During this session, we will discuss our ABAR scope and sequence.  Thank you for your patience with this date adjustment.

3rd Quarter Report Card Pick-Up:  Quarter 3 Report Card Pick-Up is Wednesday, March 29th.  Conference times are from Noon to 3 pm and 3:45 to 6:00 pm.  By now, you should have received a notice to sign up for conferences from your child’s homeroom teacher(s).  Although conferences can be in-person or virtual, we would love to see you in person.  The top 5 classrooms with the highest in person attendance will receive a prize.  Parents/Guardians who show up in person will also receive one raffle ticket for each child that attends Jahn.  On Friday, a number of individual prizes will be raffled.

Be mindful of the following events
  • March 28 - Koffee With Kimbrough
  • March 29 - Parent-Teacher Conferences (no school for students)
  • March 30 - BAC meeting - 9:15 am
  • March 30 - 8th grade picture retakes
  • March 30 - Young Hollywood Red Carpet Dance (Grades K-2)
  • March 31 - Young Hollywood Red Carpet Dance (Grades 3-5)
  • April 3-7 - Spring Break
  • April 11 - Pre-K application window opens
  • April 11-13 - IAR testing (grades 3rd-8th)
  • April 18 - Spring School Pictures

Please be mindful of the additional announcements below:

Pre-K application window:  The window for Pre-K applications is April 11 through May 2. We would love to have your child join our family.   For students that are already enrolled here and ready to move up to kindergarten, we have a seat with their name on it.  During the week of April 24-28, we will hold an open house/tour for prospective Pre-K families.  Stay tuned for that exact date.

School Food Survey:  Nutrition Support Services (NSS) is calling on students and their families to provide feedback on school food! Participation will help NSS, Aramark, and Open Kitchens improve the food service program. Please take a moment to complete the survey link.  Questions can be directed to [email protected].

Kiss and Go:  In an effort to support student transitions during arrival, we are asking all  parents/guardians to drop off students and depart from the auditorium.  While we know that adults are concerned, I can assure you that we have a number of staff members who are supervising our students.

Drop-offs and Traffic Route: For the safety of all, please do not drop students off in the crosswalk.  We have a number of curbside areas where students can be dropped off.

Please assist us by following the traffic pattern shared with families earlier this year.  We will attempt to be out there before and after school.   In cases where we are not, there should only be one way traffic on Wolcott heading north.
