Principal Message - May 1st

Greetings Husky Community

May is here, which means a lot of things around the Jahn campus.  First of all, May brings us a new Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) theme for the month.  Our SEL theme for the month of May is Self-Confidence.  Self-Confidence is a feeling you have when you trust your own abilities.  It also refers to a person who has a strong belief in themself.  Our students have completed three and a half quarters of school.  Lots has been accomplished and learned.  There is more to learn prior to the end of the school year.  This month’s theme should be a big “boost” that will assist in taking our students across the finish line of learning for this year.

In an effort to support this theme at home, please check out some of the following materials:

Pre-K - 2nd grade: book - Crown:  An Ode to the Fresh Cut by Derrick Barnes

3rd -5th grades:  book:  The First Rule of Punk by Celia C. Perez

6th - 8th grades:   book:  The Self-Esteem Workbook for Teens by Lisa Schab

Along with our SEL theme for the month, we will show our teachers love through Teachers’ Appreciation Week.  While some may celebrate this event during the first week of May, Jahn will officially celebrate during the second week, May 8th - 12th.  Stay tuned for a number of things happening on campus to celebrate our staff.  Feel free to also acknowledge our teachers any way you like during next week.

Prior to the end of this week, there will be a special LSC meeting.  This meeting is focused on our school budget for the 2023-24 school year.  While we will not lose any staff members, we did experience some funding decreases.   During this meeting, you will hear my plan around how we will spend money and what programming will look like for the school year.  Stay tuned for the exact date.  Our regularly scheduled monthly meeting will still be held next Wednesday, May 10th.

Finally, please take a moment to check out the upcoming events on campus.

Have an amazing week!

Derrick

Pre-K application window:  The application window for Pre-K runs through May 2nd.  Feel free to stop by the campus to pick up an application or go online.

Kiss and Go:  Please assist us with before and after school traffic.  We encourage you to drop your child(ren) off and go.  Stopping in the intersection and sitting for extended times does not help with the flow of traffic.  Please assist us in our efforts to make arrivals and dismissals safe for everyone.
