Principal Message - November 28th

Greetings Husky Families

I trust and hope that you had a restful and rejuvenating break.

For me, it was a great opportunity to spend time with my family in the South and continue to embrace more joy, wisdom and knowledge from my 102-year old grandmother.  Her stance on life is one of the many reasons why I am thankful to be a part of the Husky family.  Thank you for all that you do to make Jahn such a special place.

As we conclude the month of November, we thank you for everything you have done to support Native American Heritage month and our SEL theme, Empathy.  For the month of December, our SEL theme is Dedication.  Dedication can be shown to be both a goal and to those who rely on us.  Dedication helps us to be focused on what is important.  Some books that can easily connect to this theme are as follows:
  • Salt in His Shoes:  Michael Jordan in Pursuit of a Dream by Deloris Jordan
  • She’s Got This by Laurie Hernandez
  • The Things Lou Could Do by Ashley Spikes
  • Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan
  • She Persisted by Chelsea Clinton
  • New Kid by Jerry Craft
Please be mindful of the following announcements for this week.  One thing to be mindful of is that there will not be any after-school programming this Thursday for Jahn staff (the YMCA programming will be held).  Our staff will be involved in their Flex Day programming.

So that you continue to be aware of what’s happening on campus, I encourage you to review the calendar sent home or our website for additional details.

Have an amazing week.

Annual Summative Designation:  I am excited to share that our 2023 Annual Summative Designation is Commendable.  This rating highlights schools across a number of academic and student success indicators.  Schools fall in one of five designations:
  • Exemplary acknowledges the top-performing 10% of schools;
  • Comprehensive identifies schools in the lowest 5%;
  • Intensive identifies schools that are also in the lowest-performing 5%, even after completing a full Comprehensive Support School cycle;
  • Targeted recognizes schools with an overall performance above the lowest-performing 5%, but with individual student groups performing similarly to the lowest 5%;
  • All other schools receive a Commendable designation.
This designation is an improvement of where we were as a school prior to my arrival.  I am thankful for the hard work and dedication of our staff and students.  We did this!  #HuskyStrong

Pre-K Designation: Our Pre-K program continues to rock!  For the 2022-23 ExceleRate Illinois Quality rating, Jahn received the Gold Circle of Quality rating.  ExceleRate Illinois is a quality rating and improvement system that establishes a common vision of high quality early learning programs. Programs can achieve a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Circle of Quality rating by meeting or exceeding indicators established by ExceleRate Illinois.

Recess Weather Guidelines:  Please be mindful that with the weather changing, outdoor recess will continue for our Kindergarten through 8th grade students.  They should be dressed accordingly.  Check out the link for details:  CPS Recess Weather Guidelines.
