Principal Message - February 7th

Greetings Husky Families
 
We are in the midst of Black History Month.  As a school, we are excited to celebrate and acknowledge the numerous contributions African-Americans have made to our world.  Please be sure to join us at any and all of the events listed below:  
  • February 13th - African Drum performance - 1 pm
  • February 22nd - Food For the Soul (African-American history month dinner) - 10:30 - noon
  • February 23rd - Capoeira (Brazilian martial arts dance program - 4pm (auditorium) parents must be in attendance with students
  • February 29th - Assembly program - Pre-K - 3rd - 9 am; 4th-8th grades - 1 pm.  
Many thanks to you for supporting our students with our SEL theme for the month of February, Using Your Voice.  The theme, Using Your Voice, allows us to focus on recognizing diversity, being a leader, and striving for social justice.   
 
Here are a few reminders for the week:   
  • National Counseling Week:  Please help us celebrate our school counselor, Mrs. Rendleman during this week.
  • Crossing Guard Appreciation Day: Please help us celebrate our crossing guard, Mr. Watson on February 8th.  
  • OST programming: OST programming is officially underway.  Many thanks for your support.  We hope that your child(ren) loves and appreciates the sessions offered.  
    Winter Wonderland:  Thank you for joining us this past Saturday for Winter Wonderland.  Our campus was filled with excited children and happy adults.    
  • McTeacher's Night for Jahn: Please join us this Thursday as we take over the McDonald's on Addison (2608 W. Addison).  This event is from 4 to 7 pm and will support school-wide programming.  All tips and donations from pie sales will go to the school, as well as, a portion of the proceeds.    
  • Apply for our LSC: The application window for LSC elections has been extended until February 14th at 3 pm.  Please stop by the office for an application.

Recess Weather Guidelines:  Please be mindful that with the weather changing, outdoor recess will continue for our Kindergarten through 8th grade students.  They should be dressed accordingly.  Check out the link for details:  CPS Recess Weather Guidelines.
