Principal Message - April 2nd

Greetings Husky Families

Welcome to Quarter 4!   Our school year is quickly moving forward.  Before you know it,  summer will be here.   I hope your family had a wonderful Spring break.  One that you were able to connect, reflect, and just enjoy quality time together.

As we enter the month of April, we welcome the SEL theme, Self Care.  Self Care is the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.  What better way to start a new quarter than by taking time to make sure we are finding ways to take care of ourselves.

Listed below are a few texts to support the implementation of this theme:

Grades Pre-K through 2nd:
  • I Am Peace - Susan Verde
  • Blackbird Fly - Erin Entrada Kelly
  • You Got This - Steve Turner
Grades 3rd-5th:
  • One Crazy Summer - Rita Williams Garcia
  • Breathing Is My Superpower - Alicia Ortega
  • As Brave As You - Jason Reynolds
Grades 6th-8th:
  • Take In the Good - Gina Biegel
  • Revolution - Deborah Wiles
  • Dear Martin - Nic Stone

Self-care is truly something we all can better embrace.  Please take time to find ways to incorporate this theme into your daily activities.

There are a number of things happening on campus this month.  During this week, there will not be any Jahn after-school programming Thursday, due to our staff Flex day (YMCA after-school program is not canceled).

Parent-Teacher conferences are next week (Wednesday, April 10th) from 12 to 6 pm (there will be a 45 minute lunch break starting at 3 pm).  If you have not already received information from your child’s teacher, stay tuned.

For further details around what’s happening on campus,  I encourage you to review the calendar sent home or our website for additional details.  A calendar for the month of April will be sent home this week.

Have an amazing week.

Prospective Families Open House:  This Thursday, April 4th, Jahn will welcome prospective families via an open house from 5 to 6 pm.  If you are interested in providing a parent’s perspective, please contact the office to let us know of your interest in joining us.  Many thanks in advance.

Crosswalk Safety:  In an effort to support the safety of our students, I am asking that you assist us in not blocking any of the crosswalks during arrival or dismissal.  It is important to keep the crosswalks clear.  Please assist us in keeping our students safe.

Nominations Open for Crossing Guard of the Year Award
CPS is currently encouraging school communities to nominate their favorite crossing guards for the District's Crossing Guard of the Year Award using this form. Students, staff, school leaders, parents, and other community members are all welcome to submit a nomination for a crossing guard who has made a difference in their lives. The form will be open until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15th, and the winners will be announced on Monday, May 13th, 2024. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. Let’s make sure our own Mr. Michael Watson is nominated and acknowledged for the great job he does inside and outside of the school.
