Principal Message - April 28th

Greetings Husky Families

By the end of this week, we will welcome the month of May and students will go home with progress reports on Friday (which is a sign that we will have concluded the first half of our fourth quarter).

With the new month, we welcome a new SEL theme.  The SEL theme for this month is Self-Confidence.  Self-Confidence is when you recognize your potential and learn from others.  It is also when you see the potential in others and maintain optimism about goal-setting, teamwork, self-improvement, and forgiveness.  Be sure to take time and assist our scholars in bringing this theme to life. To assist you in bringing this theme to life, here are a few grade band texts:

Pre-K through 2nd grades:

  • Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut - Derrick Barnes
  • The Thing Lou Couldn’t Do - Ashley Spears
  • Whistle for Willie - Ezra Jack Keats

3rd through 5th grades:

  • Blackbird Fly - Erin Entrada Kelly
  • Salt in His Shoes - Delores Jordan
  • Absolutely Almost - Lisa Graff

6th through 8th grades:

  • Playbook  - Kwame Alexander
  • You Are Awesome - Matthew Syed
  • Out of My Mind - Sharon Draper

There are a number of upcoming events happening on campus.  Please assist us in bringing them to life:

  • Learning Garden Update:  The middle school is in full swing beautifying and getting our learning garden ready for the growing season.  Many thanks to all the families who have donated plants, mulch, and peat moss.  During this week,  middle school students will be working on putting plants into the white planters located on the Fletcher Street side of the building.  Parents and caregivers, please be mindful of young children near the garden and remind them to look and enjoy, but not to touch or play in the planters.
  • Intent to Return Form:  Please take a moment to complete the Jahn Intent to Return Form.  This form is not a binding document, but it will assist us in planning for the next school year.  You can find the form at this link:  Jahn Intent to Return form 2025-26
  • School Lunch Hero Day:  Friday, May 2nd is School Lunch Hero Day.  It’s an opportunity to recognize the work of our cafeteria team who nourish and care for our students every day (Ms. La'Shaun, Manager and Ms. Gina, Porter).  Please take a moment on Friday to recognize our wonderful cafeteria staff.
  • My Voice, My School Parent Survey:  The annual My Voice My School Parent survey is an incredible opportunity for parents’/guardians’ important perspective to be heard.  Parents and guardians of CPS students are invited to complete a survey about their child's school through May 17, 2025. The survey takes about 5-10 minutes to complete, it is available in several languages, and it is completely anonymous. We appreciate all parents/guardians who take a few minutes to participate in the My Voice My School Parent Survey.

Please take a moment to check out our monthly calendar for additional events.

Have an amazing week.
