Principal Message - October 6th

Hello Husky Families,

Friday was another special day at Jahn Fine Arts. Thanks to the hard work and organization of our volunteers, Jahn had a parade, a popcorn party and tons of support with classroom tasks. This is another example of why Jahn is such a special place! The support of a strong and aligned community makes such a difference to all of the kids at Jahn.

As most of you know, CPS requires that all volunteers complete the steps outlined at cpsvolunteers.org. This first step is required in order to be considered to help out specific events at our school or chaperone a field trip. A point of clarification- completing this step doesn’t make your participation at specific events at our school automatic. I work alongside Jahn staff to ensure that parent volunteers for every event are aligned with the mission and vision of our school and our shared commitment to creating a safe and welcoming space for all. Thank you for understanding.

Parent-teacher conferences will take place on October 27 from 11:00-3:00 and 3:45-6:00. Teachers will reach out to you about individual scheduling. If you have any questions, please email your child’s teacher directly. Quarter 1 ends on 10/17.

On 10/8 Jahn is hosting a Literacy and Math night from 4:00-5:45. Please come and enjoy some  fun with your children, teachers and their classmates.

Birthdays and holidays are a special time for all of us! Because of our commitment to provide a space safe for students with allergies and an overall healthy environment, we are asking that all students and families refrain from bringing in food for children’s birthdays. Students and staff voted on the 2 days this school year when we will celebrate with treats. These days are Halloween and the day before winter break. Stay tuned for more information from teachers about these celebrations.

Dismissal and arrival is especially difficult at Jahn because of the narrow streets and lack of parking. This impacts our teachers too, who don’t have a parking lot. We need your help! Double parking, driving the wrong way down streets or blocking crosswalks makes it difficult and dangerous for our students to get inside the building safely. Thank you for doing your part to make these times of day safe and orderly.

Keeping our Staff and Students Safe

CPS has strong protections in place to keep everyone safe and supported at school. As a reminder, our District:

  • DOES NOT ask for the immigration status of our students and staff
  • WILL NOT coordinate with federal representatives, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
  • DOES NOT share student or staff records with ICE or any other federal representatives, except in the rare case where there is a court order or consent from a parent/guardian
  • WILL NOT allow ICE agents or any other federal representatives access to CPS schools or facilities unless they produce a criminal judicial warrant signed by a federal judge

Let’s make it a great week,

Dr. Byrne
