The upcoming Día de los muertos celebration that happens in Mexico and parts of Central America provides us with a great opportunity to teach all our students about the traditions of people from different backgrounds. As an extension of learning, Jahn’s Bilingual Advisory Committee is inviting students to contribute to their floor’s Day of the Dead ofrenda by bringing photographs of loved ones or historical figures they admire, or even beloved pets that have passed on.
We also welcome contributions of any of the following traditional altar items to decorate the altars: marigolds (fresh or paper flowers are welcome!), sugar skulls, pan de muerto (wrapped in plastic), papel picado, or battery-operated candles. The photos or ofrenda decorations can be turned into your child’s teacher directly through Friday, October 31. Please label the item with your child’s name and room number.
