Hello Jahn Families,
Our first week has been truly outstanding! We celebrated students for embodying our school’s core values: Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Analytical, and Be Safe. It was inspiring to see them supporting each other and modeling these expectations. By 9:15 a.m. on the first day, classes were already engaged in lessons. As we dive back into grade-level learning, we are excited to keep this positive momentum going. We are off to a fantastic start!
All of our students should be reading every night. That is their standing homework assignment, and all children have access to appropriate books to take home. This simple practice grows vocabulary and improves focus- both are essential to learning, not to mention social emotional growth. If you don’t have time set aside for your children each day for reading, create this routine in your home.
All students K-8 will take beginning of year assessments in iReady and Star 360. This assessment is administered 3 times per year and helps track student growth throughout the year.
Healthy CPS is an Office of Student Health and Wellness initiative that seeks to eliminate health-related barriers by providing schools with guidance and support to adhere to state and district health and wellness policies, and keep students with allergies safe. The school focuses on celebrating with fun rather than food during the school day. Our school has no more than 2 school-wide celebrations per year with outside food. Homerooms are voting on when our special celebration days will be- stay tuned!
This means that we will not allow students or families to drop off or send additional treats, including for birthdays. Please help us keep this expectation for everyone, and do not try to circumvent this policy. Thank you for understanding!
Volunteering in our school building or chaperoning any field trips requires that you complete the CPS Volunteer process. This must be completed yearly, and it can take time to process. Do not leave this for the last minute! It is required to be considered for volunteer opportunities, and we need you!
It is our goal to ensure that every student in our school is safe. Students with a food allergy cannot be in contact with foods containing these allergen(s), and we are requesting your support to ensure our community’s safety by being mindful of the foods or related foods that are sent to school for lunches, snacks, or treats. Trace amounts of these allergens can result in a reaction. If you have any questions about this policy, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Open House is scheduled for September 10th from 4:00-6:00. We hope to see you there!
Let’s make it a great week,
Dr. Byrne
