Principal Message - October 13th

Hello Jahn families,

The Pumpkin Patch is such a great time! I am really looking forward to seeing you Saturday, October 17th and enjoying Chicago fall on our playlot together. Our Friends of Jahn really go all out, and certainly know how to throw a party. I am so grateful for their leadership and service to our community.

Dismissal: Kinder-2nd grade families- please come all the way onto the playlot for handoffs at dismissal instead of waving from the far side of the gate or near the street. 1-1 handoffs are an expectation to ensure safety of all students. This is especially important when students are being dismissed by a FAW teacher or a substitute. Thank you for your help keeping all of our kids safe.

Providing supervision for students after the bell is challenging for our staff and for children. Timely pickups help us run meetings, complete paperwork, support afterschool or leave on time. It can feel disrespectful to teachers and staff when children are left with us. We appreciate everyone who does their part to keep our school safe for all.

Report Card Pickup is on Monday, November 2nd. Jahn will hold conferences from 11:00-3:00 and 3:45-6:00. Teachers will reach out to you regarding scheduling and drop in hours. Do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s teacher directly with any questions.

Health & Wellness Update: As the season is changing, health officials at Chicago Public Schools (CPS) remind families that keeping kids healthy is one of the most effective ways to support student success in school. This effort includes important steps at home, where small and consistent habits can have a big impact on the spread of illnesses, including regular hand washing, keeping children home when they are not feeling well, cleaning frequently touched surfaces, and through medical visits to stay up to date on routine childhood vaccinations, physical examinations, eye examinations, and dental examinations.

The State of Illinois requires parents/guardians to provide proof of required immunizations and school physical exams by October 15, 2026 to avoid the risk of exclusion from school. The full list of required and recommended vaccines, along with health resources, can be found in the 2026-2027 Student Health and School Forms Booklet [Spanish] or summarized in our Minimum Health Requirements form [English | Spanish].

Let’s make it a great week,
Dr. Byrne
