Principal Message - October 26th

Hello Jahn families,

Happy Halloween week! I am really looking forward to our Halloween parade and FUN this Friday, October 30th. Please reach out to your child’s room representatives if you have any questions about the festivities, and be reminded of our policy around allergies. Kids and adults are encouraged to dress up and celebrate. Please help us promote a safe environment by not allowing children to bring any weapons or violent accessories to school with them. If you have any questions about whether your child’s accessory is considered violent, it probably is. Please be mindful of the dynamics of school when sending your kids in costume! Similarly, please do not dress your child in anything that others would find hateful or discriminatory.

We will be holding a Costume Parade outside (weather permitting) on Friday, October 30th starting at 9:00 AM. Parents are welcome to come and watch the parade by standing along the fence/ along the track of our school playlot to see the cutest parade in the history of parades. Our alternate location will be in the school hallways and our auditorium.  Believe the hype- it is really wonderful.

Report Card Pick-up and Conferences: Monday, November 2nd is Parent-teacher conferences. We are open from 11:00-3:00 and 3:45-6:00 on Monday. Teachers have individual methods for signing up for in person or virtual options. Please reach out to them directly or the main office if you have questions. Taking this time to meet with teachers is extremely important. The tighter communication and support between home and school, the better it is for your child.

No School November: We only have 12 instructional days in November. This makes attendance even more important! Teachers are expected to continue with instructional pacing and provide opportunities for grade level content to be covered. If your child is absent or consistently tardy, they do not have the same learning opportunities as their peers, and an already disrupted month takes a larger toll on their long term goals. Please work to get your child to school on time each day, and communicate with the office and teachers when they are sick.

November 3rd is election day and there is no school for students. Please take this opportunity to speak to your child about the importance of voting and participating in elections, making informed decisions and knowing what the leaders who are governing us stand for. I remember going with my mom to vote when I was in elementary school, and I think about it every election cycle.

Let’s make it a great week,
Dr. Byrne
