Celeste Esquivel

Hello, welcome!

My name is Celeste Esquivel, I am a musician and an educator. I am the daughter of two immigrant parents from Mexico and I am proud to be a part of the beautifully diverse Jahn School family. A fun fact I always like to share with the people I meet is that Spanish was my first language.

I earned my Bachelor of Music in music education at DePaul University. While at DePaul, I had the opportunity to come to Jahn and teach general music lessons once a week as part of my practicum requirement. After that experience, I knew Jahn was a place I wanted to be. I fell in love with the students and its wonderful community which is why I am thrilled to be joining the team!

When it comes to music education, I am passionate about the Kodaly philosophy: Music for everyone. I have been trained in Kodaly Levels 1 and 2, and I intend on becoming Kodaly certified in the next couple of years. I am eager to bring all of the new skills and ideas this methodology has to offer into the classroom. In music class, students will learn through their experiences playing, singing, creating, and exploring.

Philosophy:
I teach music because I am a strong believer that we, as a society, must keep our minds open, our hearts open, and embrace the uniqueness that each individual has to offer. It is this core value which drives my desire to celebrate and teach from my students’ diversities through Self-Expression, Life-long Learning, and Building a Sense of Community.
