Health & Physical Education



Students get physical education at least once per week, in addition to structured recess.  Physically active students are better learners. Physical activity has been proven to increase students’ academic performance, attendance, and positive behavior. 



Research shows that students receiving high-quality physical education:

  • Improved Brain Function: Physically active students scored higher in reading comprehension with just 20 minutes of physical activity.
  • Improved Test Scores: Active students scored higher on standardized tests.
  • Improved Behavior: Disciplinary action among students and suspensions decreased by 50-60% when PE is offered for 5 days per week.
  • Improved Health: Regular physical activity led to better health, fewer diseases, and improved mental health.


At Jahn, Coach Pac follows the National Health Education Standards and National Physical Education Standards to promote healthy habits for our students.





Comprehensive sexual health education builds a foundation of knowledge and skills relating to human development, relationships, decision-making, abstinence, contraception, and disease prevention. Sexual health education starts in kindergarten and continues through 8th grade. At every grade level, lessons teach developmentally appropriate and medically accurate information that builds upon the knowledge and skills that were mastered in the previous stage.

» In grades K-4, the foundational instruction includes anatomy and physiology, puberty and adolescent development, identity, reproduction, healthy relationships, and personal safety, often referred to as Family Life Education.

» In grades 5 through 8, the knowledge gained from grades K-4 serves as a foundation to which information about puberty and adolescent development and sexually transmitted diseases and HIV including information on abstinence, medically recommended contraceptives, transmission and prevention of STIs and HIV, informed decision making and sexual orientation are added.
