SEL Monthly Theme

Each month, we focus on a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) theme. We encourage families to make these connections at home.

The SEL theme for April is Self-Care/Mindfulness.

Self-Care/Mindfulness are the proactive steps individuals take to preserve and improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This month's theme is one that we all can do a better job of bringing to life. Be sure to take time and assist our scholars in bringing this theme to life. To assist you in bringing this theme to life, here are a few grade band texts:
  • Pre-K through 2nd grades:
    • I Am Peace - Susan Verde
    • My Name Is Maria Isabel - Alma Flor Ada
    • Breathing Is My Superpower - Alicia Ortega
  • 3rd through 5th grades:
    • Listening to My Body - Gabi Garcia
    • One Crazy Summer - Rita Williams Garcia
    • As Brave As You - Jason Reynolds
  • 6th through 8th grades:
    • Take In the Good - Gina Biegel
    • Dear Justyce - Nic Stone
    • Speak - Laura Halse Anderson
The ultimate question for the school year centers around the theme: What Is Your Hope? While we know that hope is something you expect or desire, we are asking each student to share something they are hoping for this school year. Our theme, What Is Your Hope?, is directly connected to the video link here: What Is Your Hope?
