SEL Monthly Theme
Each month, we focus on a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) theme. We encourage families to make these connections at home.
The SEL theme for January is Growth Setting/Growth Mindset.
With the start of our school year comes the opportunity to set goals. This month, there will be many opportunities for your student(s) to set goals and grow their minds. To assist you in bringing this theme to life at home, here are a few texts by grade band:
- Pre-K through 2nd grades:
- Jabari Jumps - Gaia Cornwall
- Whistle for Willie - Ezra Jack Keats
- The Thing Lou Couldn't Do - Ashley Spires
- 3rd through 5th grades:
- My Strong Mind - Neils Van Hove
- I Can't Do That, Yet - Esther Pia Cordova
- What Do You Do With a Chance? - Kobi Yamada
- 6th through 8th grades:
- The Garbage King - Elizabeth Laird
- The Skin I'm In - Sharon Flake
- George - Alex Gino
The ultimate question for the school year centers around the theme: What Is Your Hope? While we know that hope is something you expect or desire, we are asking each student to share something they are hoping for this school year. Our theme, What Is Your Hope?, is directly connected to the video link here: What Is Your Hope?
